Salang Highway Closed Due to Heavy Snowfall and Stormy Weather

The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works has announced that the Salang Highway has been temporarily closed to all vehicles due to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions. According to the ministry, the ongoing stormy weather has made travel on this route extremely dangerous.

Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works, stated that this decision was made to prevent traffic accidents and to protect the lives of citizens, and that the route will remain closed to traffic until further notice.

This measure comes after a passenger bus, model 580, overturned in the Salang area last night, resulting in five deaths and 44 injuries. Officials have attributed the cause of the accident to the driver’s negligence.

Meanwhile, residents of the country have been urged to avoid traveling on this route until the weather improves and the highway is officially reopened. Salang is one of Afghanistan’s most important transport routes, connecting the northern and central parts of the country, and its closure always has significant consequences for passenger movement.
