Taliban Defense Minister Stresses Modern and Religious Education in Kandahar

Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban administration’s Defense Minister, during a visit to Kandahar province, emphasized the importance of acquiring both modern and religious education. He called on families not to hinder their children’s education.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony at a religious school in Kandahar, he said that supporting schools and madrassas is a collective responsibility. According to him, children should have access to education, and families should not allow their children to remain uneducated.

The Taliban defense minister also claimed that the administration serves the people and that its forces are active in various areas, including border protection and ensuring the safety of citizens’ lives and property.

These remarks come amid more than three years of widespread domestic and international criticism over the Taliban’s education policies. Restrictions on education—especially for girls—remain one of the main challenges facing the country’s education system.
