52 Arrested in Kabul on Drug Trafficking Charges

Kabul’s Counter-Narcotics Police Department has announced the arrest of 52 individuals on charges related to drug trafficking and distribution across various parts of the city. According to a press release from the Ministry of Interior Affairs, the suspects were apprehended in separate police operations.

Officials from the Ministry of Interior stated that following preliminary investigations, the detainees will be handed over to the country’s judicial authorities for further legal proceedings. During the operations, police also seized 1,500 narcotic tablets, as well as quantities of cannabis and methamphetamine.

Despite ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking and use of narcotics, concerns persist over the increasing availability of drugs in Kabul. Experts warn that the lack of effective prevention programs and the insufficient attention of the Taliban-led administration to the plight of drug addicts have created an environment that enables continued trafficking activity.
