Two Tankers Explode After Hitting Mines in Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Navy Reports

The Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced early Sunday that two oil tankers attempting to pass through an unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz exploded and caught fire after striking mines. The report stated that both tankers violated the Strait of Hormuz transit regulations by turning off their navigation and positioning systems.

The IRGC Navy warned that ships and vessels cooperating with U.S. military forces and failing to comply with Iran’s established rules in the Strait of Hormuz will face security actions. This warning came in response to recent comments by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commander regarding freedom of navigation in this strategically sensitive waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil chokepoints, has long been a flashpoint for tensions and clashes between regional forces and global powers. The IRGC’s announcement of this incident may further escalate tensions in the Persian Gulf region.
