Taliban Authorities in Khost Burn Over 600 Music Devices Amid Strict Ban

The Taliban’s Promotion of Virtue forces in Khost province have confiscated and burned 650 music devices and playback equipment in recent months. This action, carried out over the past four months across the provincial capital and various districts of Khost, is part of the Taliban’s strict policies banning music.

The Taliban administration considers music contrary to Islamic values and seeks to preserve ‘Islamic values’ and enforce ‘social reform’ by collecting and destroying these instruments, as stated by Mostaghfir Garbez, spokesman for the Taliban governor of Khost.

However, these restrictions have negatively impacted the cultural and artistic freedoms of the people and once again highlight the suppression of cultural activities and the stifling of social life under Taliban rule. Music, a significant component of Afghan culture, has been completely banned under the Taliban’s prohibitions in the country.
