North Korea Fires About 10 Short-Range Ballistic Missiles Towards Eastern Coast

South Korea’s military announced that on Thursday, North Korea launched approximately 10 short-range ballistic missiles towards the sea near the Wonsan area on its east coast. The launches were reported to have occurred around 12:30 p.m. local time.

Following this action, South Korea’s military has raised its alert level to prepare for potential further launches and has intensified its monitoring of developments. The military is also maintaining close cooperation and intelligence sharing with the United States and Japan.

Japan’s Ministry of Defense stated that a projectile launched by North Korea, likely a ballistic missile, fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone. Earlier, the Japanese Coast Guard had reported the projectile’s splashdown into the sea.

Pyongyang’s missile tests have increased this year, and tensions between the two Koreas have escalated following a mine explosion last month that injured South Korean soldiers. North Korea’s previous missile launch occurred on October 12.
