Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Downs Advanced MQ-1 Drone in Eastern Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the downing of an advanced MQ-1 drone in the eastern Strait of Hormuz, near the Sirik area. This drone, the fourteenth of its kind, was tracked and destroyed by the IRGC’s advanced aerospace defense system under the supervision of the country’s integrated air defense network.
According to the IRGC’s public relations office, a total of 54 American MQ-9 drones and 14 MQ-1 drones have been eliminated by the IRGC’s defensive systems in this region. This action comes amid ongoing heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding territorial waters, an area recognized as highly sensitive.
The IRGC’s report highlights the military body’s focus on employing modern defense systems to enhance the country’s air defense capabilities and counter foreign aerial threats. However, these developments have also triggered security concerns and reactions across the region.
