Russia Accuses NATO of Heightening Military Tensions in Baltic Region

Vladislav Maslenikov, Director of the European Affairs Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that NATO has increased its military activities in the Baltic region in recent years, with a growing number of military exercises conducted by the alliance in the area.
He added that, in addition to NATO, the European Union’s military actions are also contributing to the worsening situation and pushing the region towards militarization.
Maslenikov referred to the ‘Baltic Guardian’ operation and the ongoing NATO exercises involving member states, warning about the negative effects these drills have on regional security and stability.
The Baltic Sea region has become a sensitive and contested area in recent years, with heightened tensions between Russia and NATO member countries. Western powers have boosted their military presence and strength there, a move that Russian officials view as a serious threat to national and regional security.
