Qatar Engages in Mediation Efforts to Ease US-Iran Tensions

The Director of Media and Communications at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a Qatari delegation has traveled to Tehran to continue consultations with regional partners and pursue mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions. Ibrahim bin Sultan Al Hashemi added that Iran must respect the principles of regional security, end its threats against neighboring countries, and guarantee safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. He noted that while positive remarks have been heard regarding a regional security mechanism, Tehran must demonstrate its goodwill through actions.

He also emphasized that Qatar and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council are prepared to establish a mechanism recognizing the sovereignty of all countries in the region. According to Al Hashemi, Qatar’s mediation efforts, in cooperation with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, aim to decrease violence and prevent further escalation of regional tensions.

Regarding the enhancement of Qatar’s military capabilities, the Director stated that these measures are ongoing to demonstrate deterrence and support Qatar’s sovereignty, and are not related to any specific crisis.
