Medvedev Says Wide-Ranging Sanctions Have Failed to Stop Russia’s Economy

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, said on Monday that the country’s economy has vast capacity and has maintained its resilience and growth despite sweeping sanctions pressure.
He added that more than 30,000 illegal sanctions have been imposed on Russia, but that they have not been able to halt the country’s development. Medvedev also pointed to Western countries’ use of sanctions and tariffs as tools of pressure on other countries, especially those in the Global South.
The deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council also voiced concern about the digital divide between the countries of the Global North and Global South, saying that the concentration of new technologies in the hands of a limited number of countries is widening that gap.
Medvedev’s remarks came as international sanctions against Russia have increased following recent political developments, with the resulting economic impact under review in international circles.
