Iraqi Prime Minister Dismisses National Intelligence Chief

Iraq’s prime minister has announced the end of Hamid al-Shatri’s tenure and his dismissal as head of the country’s National Intelligence Service. The decision was taken by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi and will take effect immediately upon issuance.
So far, no details have been released about the reason for the dismissal or the name of a possible replacement, and the media have remained silent on the matter. The move comes as the Baghdad Karkh Third Investigative Court has issued an arrest warrant for the head of Maysan provincial council.
The arrest warrant followed a complaint filed by the prime minister’s office against Mustafa Daeer, who had threatened civil disobedience and road blockades in response to the closure of the Chazabeh border crossing with Iran. These developments point to political and security crises and dissatisfaction in Iraq.
