55 Private Hospitals in Kabul Receive Accreditation

The Ministry of Public Health has said that after reviewing 115 private hospitals in Kabul, only 2 hospitals received an ‘A’ rating, 9 hospitals received a ‘B’ rating and 39 hospitals were accredited with a ‘C’ rating.

Saifullah Muawiya, executive director of health facilities accreditation at the ministry, said at the ceremony announcing the results of the assessment that the remaining 65 hospitals in the process did not receive any rating at all.

The results indicate serious challenges in the quality of health services provided by private hospitals in Kabul, which could deepen some of the concerns of the public and oversight bodies.

The hospital accreditation process is being carried out to improve the quality of health services and create transparency in the private health sector, but the failure of the majority of hospitals to obtain a rating underscores the need for better oversight and management of these health facilities.
