Ashraf Ghani Urges Pakistan to Choose Between Hostility and Friendship with Afghanistan

Ashraf Ghani, Afghanistan’s former president, warned Pakistan years ago that the time had come to make a decision and that the country must choose between hostility and friendship with Afghanistan.
In one of his speeches, he stressed that the era in which a country could speak of friendship while acting in the opposite way was over. Referring to Pakistan’s support for armed groups inside Afghanistan, Ghani described the move as nurturing “snakes and monsters” in its own sleeve.
He also warned that if the flames of war in Afghanistan were to rise, Pakistan would not be spared the negative consequences. Ghani made these warnings at a time when Pakistan was supporting the Taliban so that the war in Afghanistan would continue.
