Passenger train derails in Pakistan’s Punjab, killing four

A passenger train derailed in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Tuesday morning, killing four people.
The incident took place in the city of Shah Sharaq in Punjab province, a spokesperson for Pakistan Railways said. He said the train was travelling from Karachi to Peshawar when it left the tracks.
Train derailments have occurred repeatedly in Pakistan in recent years. The worn condition of railway lines, lack of long-term investment and outdated warning systems are cited as factors behind such incidents.
In 2023, 30 people were killed and more than 90 others injured after 10 carriages of a passenger train derailed in southern Pakistan.
