Taliban Detain 20 Residents After Panjshir Attack, Green Unit Says

Green Unit says the Taliban have detained 20 local residents after an attack in the Abdullahkhel area of Dara district in Panjshir province, in which four Taliban members were killed.

In a statement, the military wing said the attack took place on Monday, 20 October, and that three Taliban members were killed as a result. A video released by the group shows a roadside mine exploding as a Ranger vehicle passes by.

According to Green Unit, its forces carried out the attack. After the incident, the Taliban searched the homes of local residents and arrested them.

The statement said that during a search of the home of a man named Din Mohammad, one Taliban member was killed “out of the homeowner’s anger.” Green Unit claimed the 20 detained residents had no link to the attack.

The Taliban have so far not commented on these claims. Green Unit is the military wing of the Green Trend organization, led by former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh. The group has previously claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in the provinces of Panjshir, Ghor and Badakhshan.
