French trade unions block military shipment to Israel

According to the newspaper Haaretz, French trade unions prevented the loading of a shipment belonging to the military company Elbit. The shipment was due to be transported last Thursday on an Air France flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Ben Gurion Airport.

The report said the move was carried out in coordination between three trade unions and anti-Zionist groups, whose aim was to stop alternative shipments from being sent via other routes, including shipments that were due to be transferred for the airline El Al.

Haaretz also wrote that this was not the first such case, and that port workers in Marseille had previously refused to load a shipment containing parts linked to the military industry, with Israel listed as its destination.

These developments come as, in recent months, some unions and civil groups in Europe have organised protests against the transfer of military equipment to Israel.
