Russia Says It Intercepted 645 Ukrainian Drones Over Its Territory
As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 645 Ukrainian drones over various parts of Russian territory overnight.
According to the ministry, the drones were detected in several areas, including the Moscow region, Krasnodar, Crimea, and over the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. The claim was reported by the RIA Novosti news agency.
The report comes as efforts to end the war in Ukraine have so far failed to produce results, with fighting between the two sides continuing. Meanwhile, the United States has proposed holding a new round of trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and the US in the United Arab Emirates.
According to the report, Kyiv and Moscow have said they are ready to take part in the talks. However, no progress in the peace negotiations has been reported so far.
Donald Trump, the US president, had previously promised that if he won the election, he would resolve the crisis in less than 24 hours. The continuation of the war in Ukraine in the second year of his presidency has once again drawn attention to the failure of that promise.
Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, remains one of the main sources of tension between Moscow and Kyiv, and drone attacks in recent months have become a regular feature of the war between the two sides.
