Azerbaijan Says Afghanistan Could Become Regional Hub for Trade and Transit

Yalchin Rafiyev, Azerbaijan’s deputy foreign minister, said at a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s contact group on Afghanistan that the country has the potential to become a regional hub by expanding cooperation in the areas of trade, transit and energy.

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said Rafiyev made the remarks at the OIC contact group meeting on Afghanistan, which was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the deputy minister also voiced support for the efforts of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s contact group on Afghanistan.

The OIC contact group on Afghanistan is one of the organisation’s diplomatic mechanisms for reviewing developments in Afghanistan and coordinating among member states on the country.
