Pakistan Says It Blocked Armed Men From Crossing in From Afghanistan

Pakistani security sources have claimed they prevented people they described as “terrorists” from entering the Kurram district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province from across the Afghan border.

The Dawn newspaper reported on Tuesday night, Sept. 31, that the claim was made after Pakistani security sources assessed the situation along the country’s border with Afghanistan. According to the sources, these individuals were trying to enter Kurram district.

The report said Pakistani security sources claimed the group intended to infiltrate Pakistani territory via Afghanistan’s Nangarhar and Paktia provinces. Pakistani officials have so far not released further details about the number of people involved or how their entry was prevented.

The claim comes as Pakistan had earlier also blamed Afghanistan for the source of those behind Friday’s blast at a mosque in Kohat. Pakistan also says fighters from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan are operating against the country under the protection of the Taliban administration in Afghanistan.

Kurram district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is one of Pakistan’s sensitive border areas along the Durand Line, a line that has repeatedly been at the centre of security and political tensions between the two sides in recent years.
