60% of Iran’s Exports to Afghanistan Pass Through Dogharoun

Mohammadreza Modoudi, chief executive of the Dogharoun Free Zone, said 60% of Iran’s exports to Afghanistan pass through the Dogharoun gateway, but added that the crossing’s capacity has not been used as needed.

Criticising what he described as neglect of Dogharoun’s potential, he said Iran has the largest export volume of goods to Afghanistan among countries around the world. According to him, Dogharoun’s large share in this process shows that the area holds an important position in trade between the two countries.

Modoudi has called on Iran’s machinery manufacturing factories to set up operations in the Dogharoun Free Zone. He stressed that the area should not remain only a transit route and must become a hub for production, value-chain completion and the expansion of international trade.

Dogharoun, on Iran’s border with Afghanistan and near Herat province, is considered one of the important commercial crossings between the two countries, and a significant share of trade traffic passes through this route.
