Brader stresses quality of Mofeed’s products in Balkh

Abdul Ghani Brader, during a visit to the production company ‘Mofeed’ in Balkh province, stressed the need to pay attention to the quality of domestic products and said these products must not only meet the needs of Afghanistan’s market, but also be able to compete at the regional level.

He said domestic production can create export opportunities only when it is competitive in terms of quality with regional markets. The remarks come as the Taliban administration describes support for domestic production and reducing dependence on imports as central pillars of its economic policy.

The ‘Mofeed’ company has been launched in Balkh with an investment of about $30 million. According to company officials, the facility now has the capacity to produce a wide range of edible oils and animal and poultry feed, and can meet part of Afghanistan’s domestic needs.

The visit was carried out as part of programs the Taliban says it is pursuing to strengthen the manufacturing sector. Previously, Brader had also laid the foundation stone for the ‘Imam Shaghig Balkhi’ industrial town in Hairatan, a project that is to be built on 22,000 jeribs of land.

Balkh province, due to its geographical location and access to Hairatan port, is considered one of Afghanistan’s important commercial and industrial centres. Hairatan is one of the country’s major trade crossings in northern Afghanistan and plays an important role in the movement of goods and trade with neighbouring countries.
