Taliban administration seeks medical equipment technology transfer during India visit
A Taliban Ministry of Public Health delegation visiting India has called for cooperation to transfer technology and expertise in the production of medical equipment to Afghanistan. The request was raised during meetings and visits by the delegation to several factories in the Indian state of Gujarat.
According to the Taliban administration, the delegation, led by Hamdullah Zahid, deputy minister of public health for food and drugs, visited factories involved in the production of medical equipment, food products and raw materials used in medical manufacturing. The Taliban administration said the delegation members examined production processes, technical capacity, technologies in use and the quality standards of the products during these visits.
According to a statement from the Taliban Ministry of Public Health, the two sides also discussed the supply of standard medical equipment, food products and raw materials needed by Afghanistan, the expansion of trade relations and the use of existing capacities. Officials at the Indian factories also said they would provide the Afghan side with a complete list of their products and items for review.
The Taliban administration also said the managers of the Indian factories had been asked to travel to Afghanistan and cooperate in transferring experience and technology and creating conditions for medical equipment production inside the country.
Gujarat is considered one of India’s industrial states and is home to a number of the country’s large manufacturing factories. In recent years, Afghanistan has imported a large share of its health equipment and supplies from abroad.
