Taliban approve section of Kabul New City plan on 7,200 jeribs
The Taliban administration said it has approved plan 2.1 of the first phase of the “Kabul New City” project for about 7,200 jeribs of land.
According to the information released, this section is expected to include residential, commercial and public service construction.
The Taliban-run Ministry of Urban Development and Housing said the plan provides for more than 10,000 residential plots, nearly 900 residential and commercial buildings, and more than 200 factories. The administration also said schools, health centres and public spaces are included in the plan.
The Taliban administration did not provide further details on when work would begin, the cost of implementing the plan, or how residents would access the areas. It also remains unclear when this section of the project will be completed and how many Kabul residents it will cover.
The “Kabul New City” project is one of the major urban development plans around the capital and has been raised in previous years as well. In recent years, Kabul has faced population growth, the spread of unplanned construction and pressure on urban services.
