UNHCR Distributes 50,000 Hot Meal Packages at Torkham

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says it has distributed nearly 50,000 hot meal packages for returning Afghan migrants at the Torkham crossing since June.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Sept. 16, the agency said it provides up to 2,000 hot meal packages a day, along with cash assistance, to returnees. According to UNHCR, support for Afghan migrants at the crossing is continuing.

The assistance comes as the Taliban administration said more than 1,000 Afghan migrants returned to the country yesterday. According to the Taliban administration, more than 400 of them entered Afghanistan through the Torkham crossing.

The Torkham crossing in eastern Afghanistan is one of the most important routes of travel between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and a significant share of returning migrants come back through this route.
