US approves $2.8 billion arms deal with Israel, reports say
The Washington Post has reported that the United States is on the verge of implementing a new arms deal with Israel worth $2.8 billion, a contract that includes tens of thousands of heavy bombs. According to The New York Times, a US official also said that Donald Trump’s administration has approved the deal.
According to the published details, the package will be funded by American taxpayers and includes some of the deadliest munitions in the Western arsenal. The package includes 20,000 MK-84 bombs, 20,000 BLU-117 bombs and 20,000 I-2000 Penetrator bunker-busting warheads.
A spokesperson for the US State Department, without directly confirming or denying the report, said the department does not comment on proposed arms deals before they are officially notified to Congress. The remarks came as American media reported that the deal has been finalized.
The announcement comes as the US Department of Defense has acknowledged a shortage of munitions and weapons following the war against Iran. According to reports, Washington spent $22.3 billion on ammunition purchases between February 28 and June 30 alone.
Donald Trump’s administration had previously also lifted a suspension on the delivery of a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs that was imposed during the previous US administration, and agreed in early 2025 to deliver them to Israel.
