Iranian foreign minister to visit China amid concerns over Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi will travel to China on an official visit on Wednesday, a trip taking place amid growing concerns over the implications of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz for the regional and global economy.

Iran’s foreign ministry said Araqchi will meet his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, during the visit. According to the ministry, the talks will focus on bilateral relations as well as major regional and international issues.

China’s foreign ministry has also confirmed the visit and the meeting between the two ministers. No further details have yet been released about the exact agenda of the talks.

The trip comes as developments related to Iran and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz have heightened concerns about possible disruption to energy transit and its impact on regional and global markets. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s key oil transit routes, and any tensions there are usually met with international sensitivity.
