South Africa’s Ramaphosa says Ukraine conflict should be resolved through talks

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has said the conflict in Ukraine must be ended through negotiations. He said he raised the issue during a bilateral meeting with Vladimir Putin.

Ramaphosa said on Sunday that the discussion took place on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. According to him, his meeting with the Russian president in New Delhi focused on the situation in Ukraine.

The South African president also said he was struck by Putin’s willingness to reach a solution to the conflict. He did not provide further details about the meeting or the talks.

BRICS is a framework for cooperation among major emerging economies, and its meetings usually provide an opportunity for bilateral talks between leaders of member countries.
