Grossi Says Fresh Activity Seen Near Natanz Nuclear Site
Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, has claimed that construction activity and movements have been observed in the area of the Kuh-e Kolang complex near Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility. He said the agency has recorded the activity, but has not yet gained access to the tunnels inside the site.
According to Bloomberg, Grossi said IAEA inspectors have so far been unable to visit the interior of the area. As a result, he said, the agency does not have specific information about the nature of any activity that may be taking place there.
The claims come as the IAEA Board of Governors referred Iran’s nuclear file to the UN Security Council over what it called a failure to comply with nuclear obligations.
In response, Iran has warned Western countries in a diplomatic note, which officials said was distributed this week to a number of states, that the agency should not be turned into an instrument of war. Iran’s representative to the agency referred in the document to the events of June 2025 and wrote that Israeli and US attacks against Iran only hours after the resolution was adopted were a sign of the hidden aims of its backers.
The 11-page note also called on diplomats to condemn the illegal attacks. Natanz, in Iran’s Isfahan province, is one of the country’s most important centres linked to its nuclear programme and has long been at the centre of IAEA scrutiny and Western diplomatic tensions with Tehran.
