Khalilzad Says Afghanistan Ready to Attract Major International Investment

Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US envoy for Afghanistan peace efforts, said Afghanistan is ready to attract major international investment.

He made the remarks on Monday, Sept. 16, at the signing ceremony for an agreement between Afghanistan and a Saudi Arabian oil and gas company.

Khalilzad said Afghanistan’s natural resources have the capacity to meet part of the needs of regional and international markets while also creating conditions for economic growth.

Afghanistan has significant natural reserves, including oil and gas, resources that have long been seen as one of the country’s important economic assets.
