Jamiat-e Islami condemns Taliban raid on Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary

The Afghan Jamiat-e Islami Party has issued a statement condemning a raid by forces affiliated with the Taliban administration on the Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary in Kabul, describing it as a “hostile” act. The party said the incident showed an antagonistic approach toward institutions and centres that play a role in promoting awareness and Islamic values.

In its statement, Jamiat-e Islami added that such an approach could face a serious reaction from the people of Afghanistan. The party also stressed that the Hazara and Shia communities are part of the country’s proud people, and that the full rights of them and other citizens to operate in social, political, economic, cultural and media spheres must be protected.

According to published sources, forces affiliated with the Taliban administration’s Ministry of Justice raided the Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary in Kabul on Saturday, surrounded the centre and then evacuated and confiscated it. The Taliban administration has so far offered no explanation for the move.

At the same time, reports said Taliban forces also raided the office of the “Public Relations of Shiites and Hazaras” and detained at least three prominent Hazara and Shia figures. The Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary is considered one of Kabul’s well-known religious and educational centres.
