Afghanistan Journalists Centre Condemns Closure of Radio Sada-e Eslah

The Afghanistan Journalists Centre has condemned the closure of the Radio Sada-e Eslah office and the suspension of the media outlet’s activities, and has called for it to be reopened. The organisation says the move is a sign of intensifying pressure by the Taliban administration on independent media and of shrinking press freedom in Afghanistan.

In a statement on Monday, 16 Sonbola, the centre said Radio Sada-e Eslah was shut on 5 Asad this year by staff from the Taliban administration’s Ministry of Justice, five days after it marked its 18th anniversary.

According to the Afghanistan Journalists Centre, the Taliban administration’s Ministry of Justice said the media outlet was closed because of its affiliation with the “Association for the Social Reform and Development of Afghanistan”.

The Afghanistan Journalists Centre is among the institutions in the country that support media freedom and it takes positions and documents cases related to restrictions on the media and journalists.
