Taliban Says Crime and Opium Poppy Cultivation Have Fallen in Afghanistan

Abdul Matin Qani, spokesman for the Taliban-run Interior Ministry, said criminal activity in Afghanistan has declined. He made the remarks at a news conference with journalists in Herat province.

According to Qani, since the Taliban returned to power, the cultivation of narcotic drugs in the country has fallen by 95%. He also said efforts to combat human trafficking are continuing.

The Taliban Interior Ministry spokesman added that more than 95% of security forces have been supplied with uniforms. He said the process of equipping and organizing the security forces is still under way.

The Taliban-run Interior Ministry is one of the administration’s main security bodies and is responsible for the police and part of the country’s internal security management.
