Washington Post Raises Role of Pentagon in Bombing of Wedding in Iran

The US newspaper The Washington Post has reported that the Pentagon strongly believes a deadly explosion at a wedding ceremony in southern Iran may have been caused by the impact of an American bomb that deviated from its intended target.

According to the report, during US airstrikes on the evening of Sept. 1, a house where a wedding ceremony was being held was struck in the coastal town of Kuhestak in Sirik county in Iran’s Hormozgan province. At the time of the incident, a number of women and children were inside the house for the ceremony.

Initial reports said four people, including two women and two children, were killed and more than 60 others were injured. But later reports said a 22-year-old woman also died of her injuries, bringing the death toll to five.

The Washington Post, citing an informed source, wrote that the United States had targeted a communications facility in the coastal town of Kuhestak with six missiles, but one of the missiles missed its target. According to the newspaper, the Pentagon is now investigating the possibility that that same bomb hit the wedding venue.

Kuhestak is a coastal town in Sirik county, in Iran’s Hormozgan province, an area in the south of the country along the waters of the Persian Gulf.
