28 Detained After Taliban Raid on Khatam al-Nabiyyin Seminary

Tamadon TV reports that after Taliban authorities raided the Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary in Kabul, 28 students, teachers and individuals linked to the centre were detained. Four of them have since been released, while 24 others remain in custody.

According to the media outlet, the people were detained on the orders of Abdul Hakim Shari, the Taliban-appointed acting justice minister, and are currently being held at the Taliban’s Third Security District in Kabul.

Tamadon TV also said Taliban forces used physical force and acted violently against protesting residents while detaining and transferring these individuals.

The incident came after Taliban forces raided the Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary yesterday and attempted to evict the religious centre by force. That evening, a number of western Kabul residents gathered in protest against the move.

The Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary is one of the well-known religious centres in western Kabul, an area where a large part of the population is made up of Shiites.
