Thousands of Addictive Pills Seized in Khost Drug Raids

The Counter-Narcotics Department under the Khost provincial police command has announced the seizure of over 8,379 addictive pills and more than 1,000 syringes during several separate operations conducted in the provincial capital and Sabari district.
Local officials stated that two men have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in these cases. Following preliminary investigations, the suspects will be handed over to judicial authorities.
In recent years, due to its geographical location along the border with Pakistan, Khost province has been one of the main corridors for drug trafficking in eastern Afghanistan.
The rise in narcotic smuggling comes despite the Taliban administration’s claims of combating the issue. However, the persistence of such activities has raised concerns over the administration’s lack of oversight and questionable commitment to its anti-drug pledges. Experts believe that deep-rooted corruption, the absence of sustainable strategies, and the politicization of drug control enforcement have further complicated the crisis.
