Taliban administration reports sharp drop in foreign aid to institutions

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Taliban administration, has reported a significant decline in foreign aid to institutions in Afghanistan, saying the people of Afghanistan still need humanitarian assistance.

Mujahid said on the programme “Government in the Mirror of the Press” that the Taliban administration has not used the foreign aid allocated to institutions in Afghanistan. He did not provide further details on the scale of the reduction.

According to him, despite the decline, the need for humanitarian aid remains. The remarks come as a large share of foreign aid in Afghanistan in recent years has been spent through relief agencies and institutions.

In common usage in Afghanistan, “institutions” usually refers to domestic and foreign non-governmental and relief organisations working in areas such as humanitarian assistance, health, education and basic services.
