Taliban Calls for Afghan Embassy in Japan to Resume Operations

The Taliban administration has called for the resumption of operations at Afghanistan’s embassy in Tokyo, saying the mission has remained closed since the start of this year over a dispute about accepting its representatives.

Radio Hurriyat, a media outlet controlled by the Taliban administration, reported on Monday, 9 Saratan, that Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister of the Taliban administration, raised the issue in an interview with a Japanese media outlet.

According to Muttaqi, a dispute over accepting Taliban administration representatives at the Afghan embassy in Tokyo has led to the suspension of the mission’s work. He urged Japan to take the necessary steps to reopen the embassy.

The request comes as the Taliban administration, since retaking control of Afghanistan, has still not been recognized by any country except Russia. The Afghan embassy in Tokyo is one of Afghanistan’s diplomatic missions in East Asia.
