Russian 500-Kilogram Bomb Defused in Afghanistan’s Samangan

Local officials in Samangan said a 500-kilogram unexploded aerial bomb of the OFAB-500 ShR type had been identified and defused in Ozan village in the Feroz Nakhchir district of the province.

According to the Department of Disaster Preparedness, the bomb was found after a local resident reported it. The department said a technical rapid response team from the demining organisation DAFA, together with the relevant officials, carried out the identification and defusing operation.

Mine-clearance officials have urged residents not to approach or touch mines, unexploded ordnance or suspicious objects if they see them. They stressed that such cases should be reported immediately to the relevant authorities.

Feroz Nakhchir is one of the districts of Samangan province in northern Afghanistan, where unexploded ordnance and other war remnants still pose a threat to civilians in several areas.
