Turkey Detains Seven Afghan Citizens in Latest Police Operation

Turkish police detained 13 refugees, including seven Afghan citizens, in the city of Balıkesir and transferred them to a deportation center after completing administrative procedures.

Turkish officials stated that these individuals were arrested due to lacking legal residency documents. Among those detained were five Somali citizens and one Iranian citizen.

During the same operation, a suspect involved in human trafficking was also apprehended. This individual was referred to court following the investigation and was imprisoned by a judge’s order.

The process of arresting and deporting refugees, especially Afghan nationals, continues in various cities across Turkey. Previously, the Turkish Immigration Administration announced that in the first seven months of this year, police detained 22,483 Afghan refugees throughout the country.

According to these statistics, Afghan citizens top the list of refugees arrested in Turkey, a situation that has heightened concerns about the residency future of thousands of Afghan migrants in the country.
