Trump Angry Over Pro-Palestinian Candidate’s Victory in Michigan Democratic Primary

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, reacted angrily to the victory of Abdulrahman Al-Sayed, a pro-Palestinian candidate, in the Democratic Party primary for the U.S. Senate seat in Michigan. This result could influence the crucial Senate races in November. Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social, calling the event “good news for Republicans,” and claimed that Al-Sayed’s performance exceeded expectations. He also criticized the Democratic Party’s policies.

NBC reported that despite tens of millions of dollars spent by pro-Israel groups supporting Al-Sayed’s rival, Haley Stevens, Al-Sayed managed to win the contest. According to the report, the lobbying group AIPAC spent over $30 million supporting Stevens.

In the November election, Al-Sayed will face Mike Rogers, a former Republican congressman. This race is considered one of the most decisive Senate contests in the upcoming election and could determine the balance of power in the Senate through the remainder of Trump’s presidency.

If victorious in the final election, Abdulrahman Al-Sayed, who is of Egyptian descent, will become the first Muslim senator in U.S. history. He has previously described the Gaza war as “genocide” and called for shifting U.S. financial priorities from foreign aid to investments in health, housing, and domestic infrastructure sectors.

Michigan is a competitive state that voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 election; therefore, the outcome of this race could also affect the Democratic Party’s approach to developments in the Middle East.
