Taliban Administration Calls for Continued Uzbek Cooperation in Electricity Projects
As electricity shortages remain a fundamental challenge for citizens and the private sector in Afghanistan, the Taliban administration emphasized the continuation of energy cooperation during a meeting with Uzbek officials.
Breshna Company announced that Mullah Abdul Haq Hamkar, its Chief Executive Officer, met with officials from Uzbekistan’s national electricity company during a trip to Uzbekistan. In the meeting, he stated that Afghanistan has a serious electricity need and expressed hope that Uzbekistan would continue its role in developing Afghanistan’s energy sector.
According to Mr. Hamkar, relations between the two countries have strengthened in recent years, and new energy collaborations have begun. He described Tashkent’s investment in the Surkhan-Pul-e-Khumri electricity transmission project as a sign of trust and cooperation between the two sides.
During the meeting, Uzbekistan’s national electricity company officials provided information on the progress of the 220 kV Surkhan-Pul-e-Khumri transmission project, the Arghandi substation, the transmission line, and the Jalalabad substation. They said these projects would be completed on schedule and in compliance with technical standards.
The Uzbek officials added that the implementation of these projects creates opportunities for domestic Afghan companies and technical staff to participate. Afghanistan imports a significant portion of its electricity from neighboring countries, including Uzbekistan, and any delays or disruptions in this cooperation directly affect the lives of residents and the country’s economic activities.
