Taliban-Run Afghan Power Company Meets Uzbek Officials on Energy Transmission Projects
Afghanistan’s electricity company under Taliban administration has announced that during a meeting with officials from Uzbekistan’s national electricity company, discussions were held on the progress of several major electricity transmission projects between the two countries. These projects, if completed, could impact the electricity supply in several Afghan provinces.
According to the company’s statement, Mullah Abdul Haq Hamkar, acting director general of the Taliban-run electricity company, met with officials from Uzbekistan’s national electricity company during a trip to Uzbekistan. The statement noted that he spoke about “the opening of a new chapter of joint cooperation” between the two sides, especially in the energy sector.
Based on the statement, officials from Uzbekistan’s national electricity company also provided information on the practical progress of the 220-kilovolt Surkhan–Pul-e-Khumri power transmission project, the Arghandi substation and line, and the Jalalabad power substation.
According to the Uzbek side’s claims, these projects will be completed according to the set timetable and specific technical standards.
Afghanistan imports a significant portion of its required electricity from neighboring countries, and electricity transmission projects are among the key initiatives to reduce energy shortages in several provinces. However, the progress and practical operation of these projects have always faced financial and technical challenges.
