Afghanistan’s Assets in Switzerland Reach $4.2 Billion After $700 Million Gain

Anwarulhaq Ahadi, a member of Afghanistan’s Trust Fund, announced that the value of the country’s assets held in Switzerland has reached $4.2 billion after earning $700 million in profit.
Speaking at the 70th online conference of the Association of Afghan Scientists and Professionals, he said that none of these funds have been spent so far and that the assets are planned to be deposited into the central bank once the situation in Afghanistan stabilizes.
Ahadi also addressed another $3.5 billion of Afghanistan’s frozen assets in the United States, noting that two courts have so far ruled in favor of Afghanistan, and it is expected that a third court will also order the release of this amount.
According to him, if these assets are released, the funds of the Afghan people will be preserved.
The Afghanistan Trust Fund in Switzerland was established in 2022, following the U.S. announcement that $3.5 billion of the frozen reserves of Afghanistan’s central bank had been transferred to this fund. The stated purpose of the fund is to protect a portion of the central bank’s foreign reserves and manage them to maintain value and support Afghanistan’s economic stability.
