Taliban Authorities Reactivate Mi-17 Helicopter After 13 Months of Repairs

The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense announced that an Mi-17 helicopter belonging to the air force command has been reactivated and is ready to fly after 13 months of repairs and technical tests.

According to information released on the ministry’s X page, the helicopter underwent “comprehensive repairs,” technical tests, and evaluations by engineers and technicians before returning to operational status.

Officials of the ministry described this move as an important step to enhance the technical capacity, readiness, and operational capability of the air forces; a claim made despite military equipment refurbishment being a routine responsibility of any governing authority.

Mi-17 helicopters have been among the major equipment of Afghanistan’s air forces in recent years and have been widely used in transport and support operations.
