Taliban Chief of Staff Vows Continued Pursuit of Attackers in Yaftal District

Following reports of the fall of Yaftal district in Badakhshan province, Fasihuddin Fitrut, the Taliban’s Chief of Staff, traveled to the district and announced that most individuals involved in the incident have been arrested, with the pursuit of others ongoing. He stated that the security situation in Badakhshan is under control and that there is no threat to the province.
According to Fitrut, any individual or group attempting to disrupt security in Badakhshan will face a firm response from security forces. He also urged young people to cooperate with security forces and warned them not to be deceived by those who have fled Afghanistan.
The Taliban Chief of Staff suggested that foreign intelligence agencies may have played a role in inciting and organizing the event, though he emphasized that this claim cannot be fully confirmed. These remarks come as Taliban officials have yet to release detailed information about how the attack occurred or the exact number of detainees.
According to provided accounts, on Friday night, coinciding with the absence of top officials of Yaftal district, a number of armed individuals attacked the district headquarters. The Taliban administration says these individuals were suppressed and arrested within hours following the arrival of reinforcements.
Yaftal is one of the districts in Badakhshan province in the northeast of the country, a province that has occasionally experienced security unrest in recent years. However, the lack of independent information about the incident raises questions about the exact circumstances and potential casualties.
