Over 18 Million Afghanis in Transport Revenue Collected in Bamiyan Province

The Land Transport Directorate of Bamiyan province has announced that more than 18 million Afghanis in revenue have been collected over the past eight months from passenger and freight terminals and transport ports across the province, which has been deposited into the state treasury.

Mohammad Taher Hamidi, the director of finance and administration at the Bamiyan Transport Directorate, told the media that the exact figure amounts to 18,250,106 Afghanis, generated from seven parking terminals and four local transport ports.

Hamidi stated that a designated committee is responsible for determining and monitoring the fare rates for passenger vehicles within Bamiyan city and on routes connecting to nearby districts and provinces, in order to prevent disorder and abuse.

He added that three new passenger terminals have also been established in Bamiyan as part of efforts to improve urban traffic management. The department is also pursuing specific infrastructure projects aimed at alleviating transportation issues.

According to transport officials, the department has outlined several initiatives to be implemented by the end of the year, including the establishment of urban and inter-provincial taxi services, identification of active vehicles, and the systematic collection of transport commissions.

While these initiatives could help mitigate some of the transportation challenges, experience has shown that in the absence of transparent oversight and the lawful presence of responsible institutions, many of these programs face significant obstacles. The continuation of these measures under Taliban rule, without guarantees of transparency, has raised numerous concerns among local residents.
