Darahemyan Dam in Helmand Reaches 52% Completion, Set to Boost Local Agriculture

Local authorities in Helmand have announced that construction of the Darahemyan Dam in Nawa District of the province has reached 52% completion, with the project expected to be operational within the next year.
According to officials, the dam’s construction cost is 100 million Afghanis, funded by the Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. The construction work is progressing with modern equipment, and over half of the operational phases have been completed so far.
Engineer Asmatullah Sangin, the project’s technical manager, told Bakhtar Agency that the dam is being built to a height of 35 meters, a length of 504 meters, and will have a capacity of 30 cubic meters. He stated that upon completion, the dam will provide irrigation for hundreds of orchards and acres of farmland.
He also added that approximately 170 workers are currently employed in various sections of the project, and efforts are being made to ensure construction meets technical standards.
Nawa District has faced consecutive droughts in recent years, leading to a decline in agricultural and livestock activities and the migration of some residents to other areas. It is expected that with the completion of the Darahemyan Dam, some of the water shortage issues will be mitigated, enabling residents to return and reviving agricultural and livestock activities.
