Taliban’s Amir Khan Muttaqi Meets Iranian Official to Discuss Consular Services and Border Cooperation

Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban administration, met with Vahid Jalalzadeh, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs, to discuss bilateral relations and the expansion of consular cooperation. During the meeting, both sides emphasized improving consular services and border cooperation.

The Taliban Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said that various topics were discussed, including facilitating the provision of consular services to the citizens of both countries. According to the ministry, the parties also exchanged views on further coordination along the borders.

Amir Khan Muttaqi stressed the importance of providing greater conveniences for citizens in consular services. Millions of Afghan citizens reside in Iran, making consular services and the management of their documents a significant issue between the two sides.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister described the consular coordination between Kabul and Tehran as important, adding that the continuation of such meetings can pave the way for better regulation of consular affairs. This meeting took place amid ongoing discussions focused on migrant issues and border management, which have always been key topics between the two parties.
