Taliban Official Denies Use of Afghan Territory Against Other Countries

Sohail Shahin, the Taliban representative in Qatar, rejected Pakistani officials’ claims that Afghan territory is being used to threaten other countries. He stated that no country would be permitted to act against others from within Afghanistan. In an interview with Sputnik, Shahin emphasized that ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region is a top priority.
These remarks came after a spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry claimed that Islamabad and Beijing face shared security challenges stemming from Afghan soil. According to the spokesperson, activities by groups such as the “Pakistani Taliban faction” and the “East Turkestan Islamic Movement” are major concerns, highlighting the need for increased coordination between Pakistan and China.
Shahin, referring to economic plans, said the Taliban’s focus is on reconstruction, boosting trade, and expanding economic cooperation with regional countries. He added that diplomatic channels remain open to address any ambiguities and urged media outlets to refrain from publishing unsubstantiated reports.
Despite this stance, Pakistan’s security concerns have been repeatedly raised in recent months. It is expected that the Taliban administration will undertake practical and transparent measures to address these worries. Experts believe that the persistence of such allegations could affect regional relations as well as Afghanistan’s political and economic engagement processes.
