Taliban Spokesman Rejects EU Call for Inclusive Political Process in Afghanistan

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, responded to the European Union’s emphasis on initiating an inclusive political process in Afghanistan by stating that peace and stability have been established in the country. He asserted that the primary focus should now be on economic growth rather than political changes.

Mujahid claimed that war and conflict have ended and that the people have been freed from “misery and divisions.” He added that the existing security forces are capable of maintaining stability. According to him, the time has come for Afghanistan’s economy to “stand on its own feet” and move towards progress.

These remarks come as the European Union has previously underscored the necessity of forming an inclusive political process involving all ethnic groups and political factions—a key demand from the international community and segments of Afghan citizens since the Taliban’s return to power.

The Taliban spokesperson also called on countries around the world to expand their relations and interactions with the administration instead of merely expressing concern about Afghanistan’s situation. He said that other countries should engage in dialogue and decision-making about developing relations with Afghanistan.

However, critics argue that without establishing an inclusive political mechanism and ensuring genuine participation of citizens in power structures, claims of sustainable stability face serious questions. This remains one of the fundamental challenges in the engagement between the Taliban administration and the international community.
